Due to the school's grading timeline, the deadline for turning in late work has been moved forward one day. The new deadline for turning in make up work/late assignments is Sunday 5/17/20 at noon. These assignments can still be submitted for full credit.

This is our last week of new assignments as next week's focus will be making up any missing assignments for Quarter 4. This week's focus is a review of theme followed by a skills assessment in USATestPrep covering all of the focus standards that we have covered and reviewed during distance learning. If you complete any late work this week, please send me an e-mail with that assignment so that I can go back and pull your grade for the gradebook. Also, please e-mail me if you see any assignment grades missing in the gradebook that you have completed. Remember to include student name and assignment name in all e-mails. In preparation for writing their poems, students will read an article on the power of gratitude and review some poetry notes before composing their own poem thanking someone who has been impactful in their life. The article, poetry PPT, and poem assignment are all in GoogleClassroom this week. When writing their poem, students should make sure that they carefully review the rubric in GoogleClassroom to make sure that they have met all of the assignment criteria.

ALL ELA Classes: Poetry Mini Unit ELAGSE7RL5: Analyze how a drama’s or poem’s form or structure (e.g., soliloquy, sonnet) contributes to its meaning. Monday 5/4/2020 GoogleClassroom: Read the NewsELA article about expressing appreciation for someone. Make note of the author’s central idea and supporting details to back up the central idea. AC Requirements: Students are reading the same article but on a 9th grade Lexile. Tuesday 5/4/2020 GoogleClassroom: Review the poetry PowerPoint. Make notes, as needed. Focus on poetic structure and form. AC Requirements: The PPT is updated to reflect the more rigorous AC requirements for composing the poem. Wednesday 5/6/20 GoogleClassroom: Compose an original poem. Pick a person who is impactful in your life and write them a poem thanking them for what they have done. See the assignment in GoogleClassroom for the poem requirements, rubric, and examples of individuals you may want to thank. AC Requirements: The assignment requirements and rubric are updated to reflect an AC level of rigor. Thursday 5/7/20 GoogleClassroom: Review, revise, and submit your poem for grading. Make sure that you review the rubric in GoogleClassroom to make sure that you have met all of the assignment criteria before submitting your poem.
