This week we are starting Unit 2 on Explanatory Texts. At the end of the unit, students will write an explanatory essay.
Homework: Due Friday 10/26/18 “Water Scarcity a Global Issue”. A copy of the article of the week is attached to this week's e-mail (also available in the message area of ParentVue and StudentVue. Study for the Friday Quiz AC Only: The above items plus the Vocabulary Activity given in class on Monday 10/22/18. Vocabulary Activity is due Tuesday 10/23/18. Quiz Friday students have a quiz over the paired texts: "Are Phones Making Us Zombies?" and "Should your Parents Control Your Phone?". The quiz will also cover this week's vocabulary terms. Vocabulary Terms: definitions from SCOPE Compulsion: "a strong desire or constant urge to do something. Deprivation: "the state of being deprived—of not having something that is needed" Innovator: "a person who innovates; he or she does things differently than they’ve been done before" Rummage: "to search for something you want in a disorderly or hurried way" Wreak havoc: "To wreak is to cause something harmful or damaging. Havoc is destruction, confusion, or disorder. The expression wreak havoc is used when someone or something causes a lot of trouble or damage. " Vulnerable: "Something that can be easily harmed, either physically or emotionally" Please see the attached assignment for the Book Talk project. Projects are due at the beginning of class on 10/15/18. Students will present their presentations starting on 10/15/18. Students will be given class time in class on 10/11 and 10/12 to work on their Book Talk projects, but will also need to work on the assignment from home in order to finish.
