In class, we have been using the "About Point" strategy to assist students in increasing their reading comprehension. This technique can be used with all reading levels.
Students stop after reading a chunk of text and write a sentence using the following sentence frame. "This section is about _______________________________; and the point of this section is __________________________. Students with lower Lexiles and in Read 180, will want to write an "about point" sentence summary for every 1-2 paragraphs of a text. Students with higher Lexiles and in AC will want to write an "about point" summary statement for each page they read. Election Day
There will be no school on Tuesday November 5th for election day. Students are asked to read for at least an hour that day and use their time to catch up on any missing assignments for their classes. Homework
The grade book in this class is updated at least once a week. Please check the grade book and with your student to ensure that he or she is completing any assignments eligible for late credit. |
