Afternoon,
This week we are continuing our study of narrative writing in preparation for the Narrative Touchstone on Friday 10/4/19. Homework
The deadline for submitting a classwork/writing assignment for late credit is Tuesday 10/8/19 in class. No assignments will be accepted for quarter 1 late credit after that date. Help Session There will be a joint help session with Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Paden Thursday (10/3/19) morning at 8:15 covering narrative writing. Students must see Mrs. Hayes or Mrs. Paden for a pass. Conference Week Conference week is October 14th-18th. Soon, there will be a link on the cooper website to sign up for a conference with your student’s teachers. When you sign up for a conference, you are only signing up to talk to that specific teacher. If you would like to meet with multiple teachers, you will need to schedule a separate conference with each teacher. Conferences only last 15 minutes to allow teachers to meet with as many families as possible. If your student receives ELA support through an IEP, please sign up to meet with Mrs. Paden. Respectfully, Jamie Hayes 7th Grade Language Arts Cooper Middle School Good afternoon,
Next week is fall break and there is no school. While students are at home enjoying time with their family, we ask that they read at least one hour each day. When students finish a novel, they should log into GoogleClassroom and complete the reading survey. Extra Credit Students may log into USATestPrep and complete the extra credit assignments. There is one set of assignments to earn extra credit for the homework (practice) category in the gradebook. There is another set of assignments to earn extra credit for the classwork/writing category in the gradebook. These assignments are optional and can only help a student’s grade. This is the last chance for extra credit this quarter. The deadline for the extra credit is Monday September 30th. Respectfully, Jamie Hayes 7th Grade ELA Cooper Middle School Thinking about your independent reading novel answer the following question in a constructed response format. "How does one of the main character's skills or characteristics impact later events in the novel or the plot of the novel?"
Example Response: Harry Potter is the main character in the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. Harry grew up being bullied by the Dursleys and as a result, he judges people by their actions and not their appearance or possessions. When he first meets Ron in "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone", he was drawn to Ron and his family because of their genuine openness and acceptance of Harry without expecting anything in return or fawning over his fame. When he learns how poor the family is he "didn't think there was anything wrong with not being able to afford an owl. After all, he'd never had any money in his life until a month ago, and he told Ron so." This is the beginning of a life long friendship with Ron; this friendship along with Harry's close friendships with Hermione, Neville, Luna, and other teens considered awkward or semi-outcasts at Hogwarts and the larger Wizarding community shows how his childhood spent with the Dursleys impacted the way he judges whether or not people are worthy of his friendship and loyalty. His rejection of wealthy or pure blood students as friends (Draco, Pandy, etc.) also supports this character trait. Good afternoon!
In class this week we are reviewing standards RI1-RI3 and L4 in preparation for the upcoming assessment on Friday 9/13/19. Homework: USATestPrep Due Thursday, Independent Reading Response Due Friday
